Miscellaneous

Hi there,

I know I haven’t been writing in a loooong time … but there is nothing special happening!

Ok, just the latest news:

  • Was on cool party last Friday. Colleagues from the last January 06 intake invited to join forces with us – the September 06 intake – as well as with the new people from the new January 07 intake. I really enjoyed it a lot! It was hilarious!
  • My friend Nadia from Paris is currently visiting Australia and is staying with me between her travels and the wedding of her brother. Enjoy having her here, she is my first visitor since I’m here and that’s now already 7 months!
  • Nearly crashed on the bike yesterday into a car’s door … seen myself already in there (the driver did not look and just swung the door open on to the bike path right in front of me). Thanks to braking hard, screaming, and the guy having a good reaction I just managed to pass … puh, that was close!
  • I finished the first 3 weeks of the new term … tried to take it easier this term and that worked – so far at least. But now, the pressure starts creeping in … need to do a lot of reading as well as working on upcoming assignments. This term I have mainly 4 different groups for my currently 4 subjects. The 5th subject – Brand Management - is coming in the second half of the term as an intense … means a full day every week! Btw. I founded my own scuba diving club ... it's called Scuba Diving Society @ MBS ... looking forward to some awesome diving!
  • Working currently on my applications for an internship (May to August) as well as on the application for the exchange program (September to December). Changed my mind about the ranking of my preferred schools lately. Currently, London Business School is my number 1. Nevertheless, there will be tough competition and I definitely will be also happy to go to RSM in Rotterdam or probably to Spain. Let’s see what’s happening next!
  • And – I know you were waiting for that ;) - the weather again: currently it’s sooo hot, hope that is over soon!

So, guess that’s all from the last view weeks ...

Back in Melb and @ Uni

Hi *,

Time is passing really quickly … have the feeling I just came back from Tassie and 2 weeks are already gone ...

The last week in January we had “Careers Week” at uni where different companies present and students are able to meet with company representatives for informal chats to find out more. As most of you know, I want to go for an internship from May to August and therefore I’m looking at interesting employer. Up to now, my application process didn’t go very far – I just filed one application for ANZ bank and received an answer last Friday – I’m invited for an interview next Tuesday!

Last week was the first week of uni. I will take the 3 remaining core subjects Managing Processes, Business Strategy, and EPP (Economics and Public Policy, some kind of macro economics course). In addition I’ll have 2 elective subjects which will be Corporate Finance and Brand Management (the latter will be intensive second half of the term, therefore I start with only 4 subjects). Try to take it a bit easier this term – should be able to prioritize my studies to get the most out of it in the shortest possible time, say “work smarter, not harder”. Let’s see how that goes …

Yesterday, Robinette invited me for lunch. I took my bike with me on the train and made my way back from Wheelers Hill to North Melbourne on the Scottsman Creek Trail. At the start in Glen Waverly it is a really nice, off-road (but still paved) track along the creek. More towards the city center of Melbourne it gets more and more along streets and also more crowded. Nevertheless, I had a good 35km ride (altogether I rode my bike yesterday for 42km) … will take a break today …

Talk to you soon again.

Back to Hobart

Friday, 26 January 2007

left Bridport and made my way towards Hobart

  • First stop: Lavender Farm – went on a small tour and walk around the farm …
  • Next stops: Campbell Town, Ross, Oatlands, Jericho, Kempton, Bagdad and Brighton – all with more (or less) historical town centers as well as some old bridges (mainly built by convicts in the mid 19th century)
  • Last stop: Allport Hostel in North Hobart (for a “big” city hostel not bad at all)

Ross - Historical Bridge

Saturday, 27 January 2007

  • Visit Salamanca Market downtown Hobart
  • Stroll through the city center
  • Flight back to Melb late afternoon
  • Meet Janet, Andy, and Wally for “Departed” at the “Moonlight Cinema” in Melbourne’s Botanical Gardens
