Hong Kong

Day 58 - 61 (15. - 18.3.2013) Hong Kong

Hong Kong  - the last stop of my epic trip - and also the last post for this trip.
Again I was able to meet some friends from the MBA - was good to catch up after such a long time :)

Hong Kong - China with a british attitude. On every corner you are reminded that Hong Kong was a British till in the not so far past. For example I've seen only in UK & HK people queuing for the bus in neat lines.

The whole four days I spent there it was very misty or rather the smog which made it look like it was misty. There is an unbelievable number of buses & taxis in the streets.

Everyone knows double-decker buses (also from London ;) but who has seen double-decker trams?

On Hong Kong Central everything is easy to reach by foot. There are seemingly endless walkways - but not alongside the roads but several meters up in the air which makes convenient crossing without continuous ups & downs of flight of stairs. Also there is a unique thing called the mid-level escalators, an set of outdoor escalators helping people to move through the city center.

Thanks for reading this time - I'll keep you updated on my next journey to be documented in my blog!

Macau

Day 59 (16.3.2013) Macau

Yesterday I arrived Hong Kong and thought it's a good idea to leave the big city for a day to discover Macau.
Macau feels to me like a mixture of Las Vegas, Dubai, Barcelona & Bangkok - the latter coz I haven't been to Portugal or China to compare ... Macau has the shiny casinos and lots of lights of Vegas, Dubai's big-mentality and lots of bling-bling, glamorous malls, the Portuguese heritage being present all over town and last but not least the Asian impact on every corner. It has been a long day but a great one. Macau is easy to reach via a 1-1.5 hrs ferry ride from downtown Hong Kong.
