Day 18 (3.2.2013): Stewart Island to Te AnauEasy day again. Morning ferry from Stewart Island to the Bluff on the mainland. Drive further along the Scenic Southern Drive to Te Anau.
Day 19 (4.2.2013): Doubtful Sound
I booked myself on an overnight cruise to Doubtful Sound with Fiordland Expeditions http://fiordlandexpeditions.co.nz
My first rain since I'm in New Zealand - or better call it: "liquid sunshine"! First we went on a boat for about an hour which would bring us from Manapouri across Lake Manapouri to the Westarm landing.

From there by van via New Zealand's most expensive road (2NZD per cm, 22km long) to Doubtful Sound where we boarded the MS Tutoko II. I got upgraded from "bunk bed" accommodation to "single with ensuite bathroom".
The cruise included heaps breath-taking views, amazing scenery, wildlife (penguins, seals, dolphins), ...

We had to catch part of our amazing dinner, I added my fair share to dinner with 6 fish caught - of which 4 where let go again but two we kept: a Blue Cod and a Tarakihi (for the sashimi).

then we went about an hour out in the fiord with the kayaks before we had an awesome 5! course dinner: potato/leak soup, tarakihi sashimi, half crayfish, battered blue cod & grilled tarakihi, chocolate cake.
Day 20 (5.2.2013): Doubtful Sound to Milford Sound
after a fantastic night sleep we had an early morning to reach in time the boat across the lake. today it was freezing cold - over night the higher mountains got a snow cap and we could feel that ...
The afternoon I spent updating my blog in Te Anau and now I'm on my way on the road to Milford Sound where some kayaking waits for me tomorrow morning!
