Tokyo

Hi everybody,

long time no hear. I just decided to ease communication I will revive this blog during my current travels in the southern hemisphere.

After a smooth start with an upgrade to business class on my first leg from Zurich to Tokyo – lucky me J - I explored a really fascinating city.

Day 1 (17.1.2013): Tokyo
Interesting that the address on the voucher for the hotel which I booked in Zurich via  a travel agency was wrong. Same hotel name, but wrong address – at least the receptionist was able to send me to the correct hotel ca. 30mins walking. I then explored the Asakusa area including Senso-ji Temple which is the oldest temple in Tokyo. In the evening then a long and hard discussion with employees of the Tokyo metro about which train to take (where I actually knew which one I want to take just needed a ticket ;) – the only word English they spoke was “change”. Then: first, the skyscrapers in Shinjuku where I also found Christmas decoration mid Jan! second, yummy sushi for dinner with Erick a friend of Alvaro’s. Last, he showed me round his home district of Shibuya where we also went up one of the skyscrapers for a beautiful view.

Day 2 (18.1.2013): Tokyo
After Erick’s instructions I’m able to find on the Japanese metro map the right price and buy my ticket without asking a non-English-speaking guy at the train station. Had a look around Tokyo-station area including the imperial palace. Walked over to Ginza, Tokyo’s young and hip area with all the big brands around. I saw 3 Tiffany stores within 30mins walk – unbelievable!
